Meet our Honourees

Jodi AND COOKIE Lazarus, deeply affected by cancer, are dedicated philanthropists determined to find a cure.

Cookie, known internationally for his work in the field of gaming law, has had cancer affect five of seven women extremely close to him.

He lost his first wife, Maxine, to breast cancer when she was only 44. And in 2009, Jodi, learned that she had breast cancer.

Both Jodi and Maxine, it would turn out, carried the BRCA1 gene. The test to detect the gene was not yet available when Maxine Lazarus became ill, but two of her three daughters were found subsequently to carry the gene. Both have had double mastectomies to reduce their chance of getting breast cancer.

One of Jodi’s two daughters, Lindsay, also carries the gene; she, too, has had a prophylactic mastectomy.

Having experienced the grueling treatment of a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Jodi attributes actively raising awareness and funds for cancer research having given her the strength and courage to get through.

ICRF extends its gratitude to Jodi AND COOKIE Lazarus for their esteemed participation in this year’s 44th Annual Gala

Together we can find a cure
